Our Religious & Health Freedoms are on Life Support in NY
June 11, 2019 — Wall Street Journal reporter Jimmy Vielkind tweeted that Dick Gottfried has said Assembly bill A2371 to repeal the religious exemption to vaccination will be “considered” on Thursday by the Health Committee in Albany, NY. Rita Palma has said that this bill will be voted on this Thursday and that everyone should get to Albany on Wednesday and Thursday, with their kids, especially vaccine injured children.
From Rita Palma on Facbook: ACTION ALERT!!!! The bill to repeal the religious exemption will be voted on in the Health Committee Thurs, June 13th. Bring your children, including those who are vaccine-injured, to Albany Wednesday and Thursday. We have to show them the real-life effect this bill will have. Check back for confirmation and details. If you can get here both Wednesday and Thursday, thats a good idea- its crunch time. Let your networks know.
***Just after 8pm tonight Rita Palma posted a video to Facebook stating if A2371 passes out of the Health Committee we will probably lose the Religious Exemption to Vaccination in New York state.
This likely means Gottfired believes that Assemblyman Dinowitz has the 14 votes needed to move the bill out of the Health Committee, but that is not certain. There is still time for this bill to become a law as there are 6 more days on the current legislative calendar, and Gov. Cuomo has already signaled that he may force lawmakers to stay in Albany longer than the 6 days if certain bills aren’t voted on. It is unclear if A2371 was one of the bills he was referring to.
This comes on the heels of a poll claiming to show an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers support the repeal of the religious exemption to vaccination. However the poll question only asked whether parents should be required to vaccinate their children against the measles *only.* If the religious exemption is repealed, parents must vaccinate their children not only for measles, but with at least 50 other vaccines!
Some think this may be a bluff, but that does not seem to be the case to me. Dick Gottfried has made clear he would not bring A2371 to vote in the Health Committee unless Dinowitz had the votes to get the bill passed. In my estimation the only thing that will stop this bill from passing is massive voter opposition from now till the end of the session. And I believe we *can* still stop this bill from becoming a law!
