Because of their parents religious beliefs
June 26, 2019 — Jim Gaughran – a first term Democratic Senator from Syosset Long Island – voted YES to repealing the religious exemption to vaccination. This resulted in children being kicked out of all public and private schools in New York immediately; including severely disabled children that have extensive educational programs.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 26th at the Commack library, Senator Gaughran was confronted by constituents who were not to happy with him (to say the least).
One was a mother who immigrated to America from Poland. She was in tears with her three children as she told Senator Gaughran that she left communist Poland and came to America because this is the land of religious freedom. Now Senator Gaughran took her religious freedoms away from her and her family.
The Senator’s response to her was there are “hard decisions to make” in Albany. The crowd moaned loudly as he so flippantly disregarded this crying mother who can no longer send her children to school due to his disregard for the 1st amendment. The Senator was then directly challenged by Rita Palma who said:
“How can you look at her and say that? That is so outrageous! …This is a woman whose life is devastated. There’s tens of thousands of families whose lives are upended and you smoothly just say ‘well, there are tough decisions in life girls.’ Are you kidding me?!
After that Rita Palma and other constituents continued to fire a multitude of important questions at Gaughran. You can watch video of that exchange here: https://www.facebook.com/rita.palma.980/videos/10220092923701498/ K
