Because of their parents Religious Beliefs
June 28, 2019 — John Liu – a first term Democratic Senator from Bayside, Queens – voted YES to repealing the religious exemption to vaccination. This resulted in children being kicked out of all public and private schools in New York immediately; including severely disabled children that have extensive educational programs.
In fact John Liu had met face-to-face with multiple children in his district that have been kicked out of school because of his vote, including at least one severely disabled child who has an extensive educational program. That didn’t stop him from kicking them out of public school.
Over the past week Liu has attended and spoken at multiple graduations at public schools in Queens, including schools that have multiple students attending who were kicked out because of Liu and his heartless, senseless, prejudiced vote.
Senator Liu has posed for photos at the St. Patrick’s Day parade on Bell Blvd with constituents that have religious exemptions. He greeted the same constituents with hugs at the Memorial Day parade also on Bell Blvd. In one photo he held a 7-year-old child with a religious exemption on his shoulder. That 7-year-old has just been kicked out of her school thanks to Liu’s vote.
Constituents have met with Liu about the religious exemption to vaccination as early as February 21st of this year, when the freshman Senator was meeting constituents in public libraries while he stated his office was ‘under construction.’ At that meeting constituents who choose to not vaccinate themselves or their children due to religious beliefs were identified as a minority group. By the end of the meeting Liu stated, “You are a minority group. In America we protect minority groups.”
I guess we don’t protect minority groups in America any longer.
John Liu acted as if he was supportive of his constituents, but he never made any definitive statements. Just a few hours before he voted YES to the repeal he sent a 3 sentence email to constituents that said he had finally made his decision and was voting YES to repeal the religious exemption to vaccination.
Shiang Liu – a staffer in John Liu’s office – told a constituent over the phone that the “medical community” had lobbied them very hard. I wonder how many of these “medical community” individuals were Big Pharma lobbyists. Probably all of them.
John Liu does not seem to be very uncomfortable with political corruption. In 2013 his mayoral aspirations were destroyed when his campaign treasurer and one fundraiser were charged (and eventually convicted) of wire fraud charges.
John Liu is a man who puts the needs of Big Pharmaceutical companies ahead of the needs of his constituents.
“What am I going to do with my kids if this bill becomes a law?” said one mother looking dead into Liu’s eyes as she cried. He does not know, and he does not care.
Constituents have been handing out flyers and talking to residents in front of Liu’s office at 38-50 Bell Blvd, Bayside, NY. Please go to his office and tell him how you feel. If you can’t do that, call him at 718-765-6675. Email him at Liu@nysenate.gov
